  • Band Feuds!
    BACHMAN-TURNER OVERDRIVE LEGAL ISSUES
Original Bachman-Turner Overdrive members Randy Bachman and Fred Turner were considering a reunion tour, but that news has upset fellow former bandmates Robin Bachman, Randy’s brother, and Blair Thornton. According to The Canadian Press, Robin and Blair have even filed suit because when the band broke up in 1977, they got the rights to the group’s name and all variations of it. Robin and Blair allege that Randy’s company registered several of BTO’s names with the patent office and that he’s spoken to concert promoters about touring as Bachman-Turner. Robin and Blair are asking for damages for loss of market share, income and profit and they want to stop Randy and Fred from using any Bachman-Turner name.

    JOE PERRY RESPONDS
We recently reported that when asked what he plans to do next, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler said he wants to work on branding himself. Well when Tyler’s bandmate, guitarist Joe Perry, found out about this, he turned to his Twitter page. Joe wrote that he’s upset he learned about the news by reading it online, also disclosing that Steven hasn’t called him in months. Perry stated, “A bit cold [to] forget us 4 guys,” then added, “What about fans? The people that also love him and put him where he is after 40 years.” Joe went on to reveal that the last time he called Steven, the singer hung up on him. For the time being, Perry promises to put everything he can in all his upcoming Joe Perry Project shows. Read more at Twitter.com/AdmiralPerry.

  • NFL info your girl must know
--Ladies, "Marie Claire" has put together a list of things you should know before football season starts . . .

#1.) SCORING. A touchdown is worth SIX points, not seven. But after a team scores a touchdown, they can kick for one extra point. They COULD also run a play to get two more points, it's called a two-point-conversion. But they usually always kick.

--A field goal is when they kick it through the uprights. It's worth three points. A safety is worth two points. That's when a player with the ball gets tackled in his own end zone. Easy, right?

#2.) THE THIN YELLOW LINE. It represents the position for the next first down. And it only works through the magic of television . . . the players can't see it.

#3.) WHAT "FIRST AND TEN" MEANS. It means it's "first down," and the team with the ball has to go ten yards to get another first down. So, if it's "second and six," that means it's second down and the team has six yards to go for a first down.

--"Fourth and inches" means they literally only have to move the ball a few inches to get a first down. But sometimes the team with the ball will punt on the fourth down because if they DON'T get a first down, the other team gets the ball right then and there.

#4.) PENALTIES. When a referee throws a yellow flag, it means one of the players committed a penalty. There are a bunch of different penalties in football, but here are the four most common:

--Offsides. It means one of the players on defense was on the wrong side of the ball when the play started. It's usually happens when a player is trying to get a good "jump" . . . just like in track when a sprinter starts running before the gun goes off.

--False Start. It means one of the players on OFFENSE moved too soon. The big offensive linemen aren't allowed to move once they lean down and get into position, because it can trick a defensive player into jumping offsides.

--Holding. Players are allowed to block each other, but if a player gets past a blocker, and that blocker hangs onto him, it's holding.

--Pass Interference. If the quarterback throws a pass, the defense is allowed to knock the BALL down, but they can't knock the RECEIVER down. SOME physical contact is tolerated, but for the most part, it's not.

--In the NFL, the ball is placed where the pass interference penalty happened, which can be 30 or 40 yards up the field. And it's an automatic first down.

--In COLLEGE football, it's pretty much the same thing, but there's a 15-yard limit. So, even if it was a 30-yard pass, the offense gets the ball 15 yards up the field.

"More Than a Feeling: The 20 Greatest AOR Tracks of All Time!
Matthew Hamilton, Rock's Backpages, July 2009
Author's Note: I have found that most discussions of AOR get easily sidetracked unless it's made clear which definition of the AOR acronym we're using. The original meaning – "Album Orientated Rock" – tends to make people think of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Whereas I'm going by the late '70s definition – "Adult-Orientated Rock", i.e. catchy, immediate, radio-friendly arena rock with heavy keyboards, restrained but melodic guitar, and passionate irony-free vocals of the kind made famous by Boston, Journey, REO and Foreigner. So here goes...
20: 'Is This Love?' – Whitesnake
19: 'Only You Can Rock Me' – UFO
18: 'Don't Want To Wait Anymore' – The Tubes
    17: 'Innocent Days' – Giant
16: 'Home By The Sea' – Genesis
15: 'The Boys Of Summer' – Don Henley
    14) 'I Need You Tonight' – ZZ Top
    13: 'Stone Cold' – Rainbow
12: 'Broken Wings' – Mr Mister
    11: 'Dreams' – Van Halen
    10: 'Oceans' – Survivor
9: 'Hard Habit To Break' – Chicago
    8: 'These Dreams' – Heart
7: 'Hold The Line' – Toto

  • GEDDY LEE GAVE CREW CARTE BLANCHE FOR DOC.
When Rush was out on their 2007 Snakes & Arrows tour, some members of their crew decided to film aspects of the trek. That footage has since been edited together into a documentary called Backstage Secrets. Singer Geddy Lee told us once the band approved the film, it was all in the hands of their techs to do as they wanted with the project.
“I left it totally up to the crew. When they approached us about it, I said, ‘It’s not about me, it’s about my guys.’ So I said to the guys, ‘Look, these guys want to do this kind of show, here’s what they’ve done in the past, totally, 100 percent your decision, yes or no.’ And I just left them to it and they decided to go ahead with it. I look at it like their movie, not mine, it had nothing to do with me.”

You can see clips from the five-part, five-hour long film on YouTube by searching for “Rush Concert Tech Documentary.”

However, nothing was there and Earl fell, hitting his head and back, then breaking the fall with his right arm. Roger wound up breaking his collarbone and fracturing his spine. He’s okay now but you can read about the whole ordeal in the interview section of ClassicRockRevisited.com.

  • Richmond Baseball
The minor leagues power people have made it clear that w/o a new stadium there will be no team in Richmond. My question to you is...Actually, I have a couple... Baseball in Richmond yes? no? Downtown stadium or rebuild at the Diamond? How often would you realistically go to games? Let us know.
    Thanks, Sam
  • All Junior!
I think Junior is to blame if anyone. At first I would say it's just racing, but Junior never seemed to let up even once he got below the yellow line. And with all those other racers behind you it's pretty stupid to give someone a fender like that. Plus I've always thought Junior was a little of a hot head on the track and he's definitely a little overrated for all the publicity he gets. He's no where as good as his dad was!
  • 500-who's to blame?
Hi Sam. Nascar is doing their typical job of implying rules are for some of the drivers and not all. Jr. was mad that he made two pit road mistakes. Jr chose to take it out on Brian Vickers during the race. His comment that Brian saw him coming, implied that Brian should have just moved out of his way. Who does Jr. think he is? It's racing --

Plus the fact that Nascar did nothing when Jr.'s immature move took out possible race winners Kyle Busch and/or Carl Edwards. Like Brian Vickers stated, during the Nationwide race the same move was done and the driver was held for 5 laps -- why did they do nothing during the Sprint Cup race?

This immature move could really have hurt some drivers.. Wake up Nascar -- stick to your rules and regulations during the race --
    Thanks
  • Daytona 500-Who's to blame?
In the big Daytona 500 wreck, who's to blame...Junior, Vickers or, "That's just racin'."
  • (from the show 2/4/09) Interview questions you should never ask...
    got this from Yahoo.com..
TEN QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD NEVER ASK AT A JOB INTERVIEW

Circuit City held a job fair for its former employees… Here are some tips that might move you to the front of the line…or at least keep you away from the rear.

1.) WHAT DOES YOUR COMPANY DO? You should already know. Do the research before you go in. At the very least, you should know what the company does and who its competitors are.

2.) ARE YOU GOING TO DO A BACKGROUND CHECK? Worried they’ll find something? If you're asking, you probably should be.

3.) WHEN WILL I GET A RAISE? Wait at least until your second interview, and then ask if the company has annual salary reviews.

4.) ARE THERE ANY BETTER JOBS AVAILABLE? Don't take yourself out of the running for the job. You applied for this one. If you’re qualified for a better gig do the research and apply for that one…if it is available.

5.) HOW SOON CAN I TRANSFER TO ANOTHER POSITION? See number 4. Employers generally wait at least a year before approving transfers.

6.) CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE BUS LINES TO YOUR OFFICE? What? That’s a “YPNOTTP-your problem, not their problem.” Not too sharp. Research it for yourself.

7.) DO YOU ALLOW SMOKING BREAKS? Many companies don't allow smoking anywhere on the grounds. Don't go there or they might look at someone else.

8.) IS MY MEDICAL CONDITION COVERED UNDER YOU INSURANCE? Get the job first.

9.) WILL I HAVE TO TAKE A DRUG TEST? See 2 above.

10.) IF YOU HIRE ME, CAN I START IN A MONTH? Most employers will want you in 2 weeks, maybe sooner. Again, wait until you get offered the job.
