Elderly Man in Wheelchair Dies After South Richmond Blaze
Just after 6 o'clock this (Tuesday) morning, Richmond Fire & EMS crews responded to a house fire in the 1400 block of Lynhaven Avenue in the city's south side. While firefighters were en route, 9-1-1 updates advised that there might be an elderly, wheelchair-bound person trapped in the burning home. When fire crews arrived on-scene, they attempted to gain entry through a door that was blocked from the inside. After forcing their way into the house, firefighters found the home's only resident - a 65-year-old man confined to a wheelchair - unresponsive. The man's wheelchair had been blocking the door. Firefighters removed the victim from the house. He died at the scene. Fire investigators have determined the blaze was an accident.
