92 residents displaced by late-night fire at south Richmond retirement community
Richmond fire crews, assisted by Chesterfield County firefighters, battled a three-alarm blaze that started at the Chesterfield Square retirement apartments on Hioaks Road near CJW Medical Center (Chippenham) just before nine o'clock last night. Richmond Fire and EMS Lieutenant Shawn Jones said fire crews rescued some residents from the third floor of the building involved and 92 residents were evacuated across the street to a CJW Medical Center auditorium. Evacuees were later transported to Bon Air Methodist Church. It took three hours to bring the fire under control and one building in the complex partially collapsed.
